Don't Be Afraid

"A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes" - Mark Twain

We've had a recent run of news that proves the masses rush to judgment and get emotionally twisted around half-truths or lies – Christ-followers must do better. These are more than political fights in need of spin or retribution - they are moral lessons, inviting introspection. We’ve all piled-on at some point in our life. But make no mistake; rumormongering, vilifying and breathless accusations will always meet their match - sooner, or later the truth will prevail.

Everyone can learn from this Psalm. Some are warned, and others are comforted. “Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made.” Psalm 7:14-15

The fall or demise of the “pit digger” always happens. So we should never take sides or attempt to bring anyone down, no matter what our personal feelings, until the truth comes forward. Sometimes liars/embellishers will fall quickly, other times it's a steady decline. But the hole will ultimately swallow them up.

I've felt this at a profoundly personal level. These are the lessons learned: 1. Keep your head down and mouth shut. God is our defender, and he's more than capable – he has your back. 2. Even if some have taken the bait of Satan and jumped into the fray, never to know the truth or hear the other side, God will square it all away at the end of time – and time is moving fast. 3. It is all of our responsibility to own sin in our lives and trust the balance to God.

His shoes are on, and he’s carrying the banner of truth.
