Torance grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago and he has always enjoyed the pulse of Chicagoland. It seems as though Torance’s journey with the Lord has come full circle, leading him both locally and abroad in ministry and then right back home to his roots here in Chicagoland. Torance has been a committed follower of Jesus Christ for more than 13 years (since freshman year of college).
He’s a proud alumnus of Homewood-Flossmoor High School as well as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Torance attended the U of I College of Music and has achieved both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education.
Torance’s passion is music and his personal mission is to help people live to be the best version of themselves that they can be. With that mission in his heart and God as the primary composer of his life, Torance has been able to serve others with his gifts in both his professional life and ministry. Professionally, Torance has been able to use his vast skills and knowledge in music as a choral program director and music teacher in the Urbana, IL and Champaign, IL school districts at both the middle school and high school levels.
Torance has been involved with leading worship in different settings since 2013, leading him to become the worship leader for their home church in Urbana, IL in January, 2017. He and his wife (Samantha) followed a call from God to be missionaries to a small town in Northern England in 2015/2016 and that experience was a turning point in their lives that put them on a path to this moment. Torance’s hard work, gifts, education and skills have all come together at 180 Chicago as worship is now both a professional path and a ministry opportunity all in one for him and his family.
Torance is married to Samantha (2011) and they have two beautiful young daughters (Sofia and Israel) and a son (TJ - Torance, Jr).
Torance’s role at 180 Chicago is to lead us into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ every week by leading us in worship. Torance would tell you, “Five years ago, I never would have thought I’d be here. But following God’s leadership and walking by faith is the greatest journey anyone could ever enjoy!”
