Steve was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. Spending most of his childhood in Naperville, he grew up in a Christian home with parents dedicated to loving and serving the local church. Steve gave his life to Christ at the age of 15 when his youth pastor challenged him to make his faith his own and start a real relationship with the lord.
His faith truly began to grow while college out at Iowa State University. In his freshman year, he started attending a college ministry called “The Salt Company”, where 1,500 kids from ISU met on Thursday nights to worship the Lord. It was completely counterintuitive to the college experience to have that many 18-22 year-olds choosing to make their faith their own, and it was a great environment for growth. The saying that you will become most like the 5 closest people around you could not be truer for Steve. He started a small group in his Freshman year which stuck together all the way through and still reunites every summer with their growing families. After college, Steve moved back home and began working as a Mechanical Engineer where he does engineering design for hospitals. Steve’s relationship with the Lord has grown by leaps and bounds the last three years and that can be directly attributed to his prayer life.
Steve heard about 180 Chicago when Karl came to speak at his home church, and started attending 180 after he moved down to the city. Steve is married to Taylor, and they currently live in Chicago. They are both mechanical engineers and love hiking mountains whenever they can get away. Hosting is something Taylor and Steve both love doing, especially when they can cram as many people as humanly possible in their 1-bedroom apartment. Their current record is 44. Their little family just got a little bit bigger with a new golden retriever (Summit).
Steve’s point of focus as an Elder at 180 is the prayer health of the church; so, if you ever need prayer or just need to talk, he’d be happy to chat. You can find him most Sundays dragging signs around the campus.
