Karl has been a committed follower of Christ for over 33 years, has been speaking publicly for over 30 years and has been a pastor for over 28 years. His passion is that a spiritual revolution would happen inside the church that reaches the world and he believes, “a revived church possesses the greatest message of hope that’s ever been heard”. As Karl says,”Most people I meet have no real idea what Jesus wants for them – to be freed from constraints of sin and experience abundant life. “
Karl’s love for the gospel and belief in God’s ability to change lives is grounded in truth and experience. His strong family values and wide-range of life experiences have shaped his heart for the Lord and his passion for ministry.
He was born in Alaska, raised by great parents and attended a good church – religious but not yet transformed by God. Karl completed the 1,100 mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race at the age of 18 – even this adventure couldn't fulfill. He was changed by God forever on Feb. 11th 1984 – brokenness is the place that Karl was reborn. Karl received a B.S. in Biblical Studies degree from Multnomah University in 1989 – blessed by God and received a vision for ministry and a wife (Junanne) for life.
Over the years of ministry Karl has coached a multi-racial track team in South Africa, launched two college/career singles ministries that grew rapidly and thrived spiritually, spoke nationally at marriage conferences with Family Life for 11 years and led a dynamic church that grew to be the largest in the state of Alaska witnessing firsthand the power of the gospel to create a dynamic movement of people. This church was featured on the front page of the New York Times (Nov. 23rd, 2007) for its strategic outreach and innovation.
Karl has also worked in radio hosting a ministry called Lifelane 180 where he was a finalist for the 2014 National Religious Broadcasters Radio Program of the Year. He is currently the weekday morning host on Moody Radio’s “Karl and Crew Mornings”, WMBI 90.1 FM, Chicago (5am – 9am).
Karl is currently the Lead Pastor of 180 Chicago – believing God that “greater things are yet to come”. Karl’s role at 180 Chicago is to be the shepherd and spiritual leader of the 180 family, preach the gospel of Jesus Christ while carrying out the vision that God has given him for the church to impact the people of Chicago.
Karl is married to Junanne (1987) and they have two adult children who also love the Lord.
